The Institute of Medicine Committee on Smallpox Vaccination Program Implementation, convened to advise the CDC on selected aspects of the pre-event smallpox vaccination program, held an open meeting on Monday, March 29, 2004 in the Lecture Room of The National Academy of Sciences Building at 2101 Constitution Avenue, NW.
The purpose of the meeting was to assess the state of the science and the knowledge base available for developing realistic and evidence-based public health disaster scenarios and exercises. The meeting agenda included an update on CDC's public health preparedness activities, an overview of select smallpox modeling efforts, a discussion of some of the theoretical work and findings from disaster research, a presentation on one federal agency's expertise and history with disaster exercises and drills, and input from two national bodies on the exercise experiences of public health and health care entities, respectively.
