Institute of Medicine's Committe on Clinical Trial Registries held a public workshop in June 2005 to discuss issues related to the content and operation of a "National Clinical Trial Registry."
The purpose of the workshop was to receive comments and have a public dialogue with patients, clinical researchers, federal agency representatives, and others on a proposal for a National Registry that had been developed by the committee in discussions with representatives from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, the federal government, and others. The proposal described areas of agreement and disagreement related to establishing and operating a National Registry.
The workshop was structured to allow for input from various interested sectors, e.g., patients, clinical researchers, federal agencies, and included time for open discussion with audience participants.
A report of this workshop was issued in January 2006.
