Type:
Consensus Study
Topic(s):

Board(s):
Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice

Activity Description

An IOM committee conducted an updated review of scientific evidence regarding statistical associations between diseases and exposure to sarin. This review built upon the information previously developed by separate IOM committees responsible for the reports: Gulf War and Health: Volume 1 Depleted Uranium, Pyridostigmine Bromide, Sarin, Vaccines and Gulf War and Health: Volume 2 Insecticides and Solvents, but focused on scientific studies and other information developed since the release of those reports. The committee also conducted an extensive dissemination effort intended to help inform the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other interested stakeholders, including the U.S. Congress.

This study is part of a series of studies on gulf war and health that have been undertaken for the VA. The VA requested, in response to veterans' concerns, that an updated examination of sarin be conducted.
