Judith Shamir has been named as the new Director of Membership at the Institute of Medicine, effective May 10, 2004.
In announcing her appointment, Dr. Harvey Fineberg, President of the Institute of Medicine, commented, "I am very pleased that Judith has chosen to accept our position, and I am confident that our members will be well served by her leadership. She has just the qualities we were seeking in terms of systems-thinking, creative problem solving, and teamwork."
Judith Shamir brings more than 18 years of experience in health care associations and non-profit organizations. She has been at the American Nurses Association since 1994, first as a Senior Staff Specialist, and since 1996, as their Director of Leadership Services.
She previously held positions at the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. Ms. Shamir is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE), and BoardSource (National Center for Non-Profit Boards).
Ms. Shamir is a graduate of Brooklyn College, with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
