Developing Safer Drugs: Assessing the Ability of Genomic Technologies to Anticipate Off-Target Drug Effects during Development

October 23-24, 2008
NAS Keck Center
Room 100
500 5th St NW
Washington, DC 20001

Background:

Many drugs fail late in development due to off-target effects. The Drug Forum is interested in assessing the progress towards identifying predictive biomarkers for drug toxicity. The meeting will be focused on biomarkers for nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and cardiac toxicity.

Objectives:

The primary objectives of this workshop are to: 1) to assess the current state of the art for screening technologies to find off target effects early in development (before Phase 2/3 trials); 2) to understand the rate at which these efforts are advancing; and 3) to develop ideas about how to accelerate the efforts through public and private means.

More details to be announced soon.
