The Institute of Medicine established the Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention in 2008.
This committee, chaired by Jeffrey P. Koplan, MD, MPH, is comprised of national leaders in public health, public policy, medicine, nutrition, physical activity, pediatrics, obesity prevention, social and behavioral sciences, biostatistics and epidemiology. The committee brings together experience from government, academia, and the corporate sectors.
The committee will serve as a focal point for national and state-level policy discussions about obesity prevention among leaders and experts in this field, in government, and from other related disciplines. It will also guide the selection and refinement of focused topics on obesity prevention to be examined through workshops and studies conducted by separately appointed ad hoc committees.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the sponsor for the Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention.
