The charge of the Board is to oversee the work of the Medical Follow-up Agency of the Institute of Medicine in utilizing the medical and other records of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, and other Federal agencies for purposes of medical research. The Board is concerned with the effective study of the natural history of diseases and other health outcomes in military veteran populations. The agencies that support MFUA rely upon the Board to ensure that quality work is undertaken and to advise MFUA staff and subcommittees, as appropriate, in the conduct of their studies. The Board of the Medical Follow-up Agency meets once a year.
